History of the Glenbrook Players
The group was formed in 1975 as Lower Mountains Repertory Theatre.
Our first production, The Drunkard, was first performed on 4 July 1975. In the early years the theatre was renowned for its annual melodramas that were energetic, entertaining, and drew in plenty of audience participation. These productions toured local clubs and provided the financial base for the fledgling company. In addition the company staged comedies and farces, all accompanied by theatre restaurant or buffet style catering.
Since 1975 the group has performed more than 90 shows. A full list of these can be found on the Previous Productions page.
During the nineties, changing times saw a change in the style and diversity of productions staged by the company. We now produce two shows per year, in May and November, with additional skill sharing workshops and community events through the year. Our emphasis is, as it has always been, on producing quality theatre through solid stagecraft and professionalism.
In 1995 the Company became an incorporated body under the Associations Incorporation Act. We took on the name of Glenbrook Players Inc. at this time and have been performing under this banner since.
The company is an ensemble group where the abilities of each individual are valued and the contribution of every member counts. We maintain a significant social focus that builds friendships and teamwork within the group.
We are a voluntary group of performers, designers, writers, and technicians that continues to change and grow as we search for the best in entertainment and creative collaboration. We welcome anyone who loves the ‘doing’ and ‘making’ of theatre and are always on the look out for new members to refresh and renew creative energy and to build on the skills and traditions established over 40 years of theatre making in the mountains.
